Haggis, neeps and tatties

Before you think my blog is no longer G-rated, this is just a name for a popular starter dish here in Scotland. Its minced lamb (haggis) with mashed turnips (neeps) and mashed potatoes (tatties). No other joke here, just a goofy sounding food name.


Yes, I am in Scotland right now traveling through all the regions that a UK visa and US green card will permit. Also if you are looking for a decent comedy club in Edinburgh, I recommend the "The Stand Comedy Club" at the intersection of North St. Andrews square and York Place. I was able to see some 10 odd gigs for 2 pounds (thats 4 bucks) and no drink minimums. It is surprising how dirt cheap some good live stand up can be.

Aargh - I recall a Mike Myers sketch where he talked graphically about Haggis - it is NOT "mince" - Wikipedia - "There are many recipes, most of which have in common the following ingredients: sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally boiled in the animal's stomach for approximately an hour."

    ...sorry dude, that doesnt sound at all appealing! :) Have some good scotch while you're there to wash away the knowledge of what haggis is! :) Try some islay single malt - very distinct!
